Sony Turns Down Spider-Man/Infinitiy War Rumors

It was reported that yesterday that Spider-Man would be joining the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity Wars, but apparently Sony says that’t not the case. Sony told Comic Book Resources that those rumors apparently were just old and didn’t have any merit to them whatsoever, although Latino-Review’s reports on the subject show that the rumors were brand-spanking-new. Spider-Man’s arrival into the MCU was supposed to be a surprise so it’s possible that Sony is just trying to cover up the wall-crawler joining the MCU until later on. So it pretty much comes down to which side you want to believe until we get some actual evidence or proof that Spidey will/wont join up with the Avengers in Infinity Wars.

Inspired James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Director James Gunn sat down with Comic Book Resources to talk about his upcoming project, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He spoke about the music, the feel, and how the movie will play a part in shaping more of the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe.

When asked about an update for the movie, Gunn answered saying:

“Well, I’m really inspired. The whole story is written. I’m very excited about it. And that’s where it is. But the story point for me is, in a lot of ways, the most difficult thing. I feel like it’s pretty strong. It’s constantly shifting, but I feel like it’s pretty strong. I’m excited about it.”

He then goes on to talk about a new-world building saying:

“I think there’s a combination of some new world-building, combined with getting to know the world we already know a little bit better, just taking a closer look at everything to get to know things a little bit more intimately as opposed to seeing in very broad terms what some of these cultures are — like, getting to know them very up close and personal.”

Gunn also spoke about the music and why he may not use the same kind in the sequel:

“Really, it’s just about walking forward in an elegant manner. When you go forward with a group of characters, that means you have to go forward. And going forward means you’re understanding these characters in a new way, you’re developing a new kind of story about their lives and who they are and where they’re going. And if you’re doing that, if you’re walking forward, then you can’t just repeat what you did before. That’s going backwards. That’s not understanding the character.”

He then went on to talk about some of the galactic superheroes and how they will change:

“The Guardians are going to continuously change. I think that some of the characters are probably worse than what we think they are, and other characters are better than what we think they are. It’s going to be interesting to learn a little bit about that as time goes on.”

John Ostrander on Suicide Squad Movie

Writer John Ostrander, the man who has turned the Suicide Squad comic into what it is today, spoke with Comic Book Resources about what he thought of the upcoming movie and the officially announced cast members for it.

I was pleased, but I wouldn’t have guessed that it would have been one of the properties that they would do quite so quickly,” he told Comic Book Resources. “That’s a heck of a slot. It’s the first movie after ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ That places them pretty high and sure, that pleases me.

He then went on to talk about he thought the movie was very similar to his work on the comic saying:

It sounds like they are going with my original concept, which is that these are bad guys, and in order to earn their freedom, they have to go on missions, in which they could be killed,” Ostrander says. “My original pitch to DC was the Secret Society of Super-Villains meets “The Dirty Dozen.” This sounds like they are fully behind the whole “Dirty Dozen” concept. These are people that will get pardoned if they survive a very risky mission.”

Ostrander also went on to talk about some of the missing and added members of the team saying:

I think Bronze Tiger would have been interesting. I think they needed a few more characters that aren’t villains, because that’s what we did originally, in order to make it work,” he told Comic Book Resources. “I think Night Shade could work either way as a hero or a villain. She has a very useful power. But again, it’s a very interesting choice in having The Joker for the Squad.”

Ostrander thinks that having a big star like Will Smith added to the project will definitely help get the movie out there more to people not familiar with the comic book. He also likes that they’ve added  Actors Tom Hardy and Jared Leto to the film as well. On who will play the squad’s government supervisor/leader Amanda Waller, Ostrander says that Oprah Winfrey is at the top of his list and that she was involved even before the rumors began to surface.

Could The Dark Knight Returns Be Getting Another Sequel?

After 30 years since the original debut of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns storyline, and 13 years years since the sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again, DC may be planning for another installment in the Batman series. According to Bleeding Cool and Comic Book Resources, Miller is in talks to work with current Batman writer, Scott Snyder for a 3rd Dark Knight series.

The third installment would jump even father into the future and would be similar to the original comic. The story would revolve around Carrie Kelly, Batman’s Robin at the time of The Dark Knight Returns, now a much older woman trying to find a replacement to take up the Robin mantle. The plan is for Miller and Snyder to write the comic together and have a rotating team of artists illustrate each issue. The current talks for the potential changing artists are Greg Capullo, Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Andy Kubert, and Sean Murphy.
